School Board honored Solar Storms at meeting
September 9, 2026
At the September 9 school board meeting, HRVHS Solar Storms team members Isabel Ulland and Sofia Mosqueda Vazquez, alongside team advisor Justin Ulland, presented their 2025–2026 season report. The team celebrated an incredible national achievement, taking 3rd place in the Classic Division at the Solar Car Challenge after completing 301 total course miles! District leadership and the school board thank all the parents, mentors, and community donors who made this impressive project possible. The Solar Storm were met with cheers and smiles as they drove through the 4th of July parade, proudly sharing their solar car with the community for the first time. That moment was only possible because the team had pulled an all-nighter to get the car running, making the celebration even more meaningful.
Solar Storms Takes to the Airwaves

The Solar Storms team recently had the chance to be featured on the radio, sharing the story behind Hood River’s first high school solar car team. Students talked about designing and building a solar-powered race car, preparing for the cross-country race in Texas, and the challenges and excitement of bringing the project to life. The interview also highlighted the incredible support from mentors, sponsors, and the community that has made this journey possible.
School Board Says Yes to Texas!!!

After presenting to the school board, the Solar Storms team received a unanimous vote of support to travel to Texas for the Solar Car Challenge. It was an exciting milestone and a chance to share everything the team has accomplished so far — from designing and building a solar-powered race car to growing support throughout our Hood River Valley Community.
